Luke 8:15-18 GW The seeds that were planted on good ground are people who also hear the word. But they keep it in their good and honest hearts and produce what is good despite what life may bring. (16) "No one lights a lamp and hides it under a bowl or puts it under a bed. Instead, everyone who lights a lamp (knows the truth) puts it on a lamp stand so that those who come in will see the light. (17) There is nothing hidden that will not be revealed. There is nothing kept secret that will not come to light. (18) "So pay attention to how you listen! Those who understand these mysteries will be given more knowledge. However, some people don't understand these mysteries. Even what they think they understand will be taken away from them."

Take special note of the warning by Jesus in verse 18. He there cautioned we must "pay attention to," or "be careful of, how we listen." He often warned against false prophets who would come in his name, thus providing keen awareness we must be vigilant never to be fooled by them. (Mat 7:15; Mat 24:4-5) He here warns those who are "followers of men" may assert and even believe they have real knowledge, but even what they have (the lies they have accepted) will be taken away from them. Those actually listening to and learning the truth from Christ Jesus, however, will be given more and more. In verse 17, Jesus explains all religious lies will be revealed. All we need do is actually listen to Christ to be set free of religious doctrinal teachings. (John 8:31-32) Reading the words of Christ from Matthew, Mark, Luke or John is the only way we can be certain we are not being led astray by some religious doctrine contrived by men. (Acts 17:29-31)

Luke 8:15-18 GNB The seeds that fell in good soil stand for those who hear the message and retain it in a good and obedient heart, and they persist until they bear fruit. (16) "No one lights a lamp (knows the truth) and covers it with a bowl or puts it under a bed. Instead, it is put on the lampstand, so that people will see the light as they come in. (17) "Whatever is hidden away will be brought out into the open, and whatever is covered up will be found and brought to light. (18) "Be careful, then, how you listen; because those who have something will be given more, but whoever has nothing will have taken away from them even the little they think they have."

Luke 8:15-18 CEV Those seeds that fell on good ground are the people who listen to the message and keep it in good and honest hearts. They last and produce a harvest. (16) No one lights a lamp (knows the truth) and puts it under a bowl or under a bed. A lamp is always put on a lampstand, so that people who come into a house will see the light. (17) There is nothing hidden that will not be found. There is no secret that will not be well known. (18) Pay attention to how you listen! Everyone who has something will be given more, but people who have nothing will lose what little they think they have.

Luke 8:15-18 BBE And those in the good earth are those who, having given ear to the word, keep it with a good and true heart, and in quiet strength give fruit. (16) No man, when the light is lighted (when he knows the truth), puts a cover over it, or puts it under a bed, but he puts it on its table, so that those who come in may see the light. (17) For nothing is put out of view which will not be made clear, and nothing is secret of which the knowledge will not come to light. (18) So take care how you give hearing, for to him who has will be given, and from him who has not will be taken even what he seems to have.

You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals.
