Jeremiah 23:16-28 LITV (16) So says Jehovah of Hosts, Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you; they make you vain; they speak a vision of their own heart, not out of the mouth of Jehovah. (17) They say to those who despise Me, Jehovah has said, You shall have peace. And they say to everyone who walks in the stubbornness of his own heart, Evil shall not come on you. (18) For who has stood in the counsel of Jehovah, and has seen and heard His Word? Who has listened to His Word and heard? (19) Behold, the tempest of Jehovah has gone forth in fury, even a whirling tempest. It will whirl on the head of the wicked. (20) The anger of Jehovah shall not turn back until He has executed, and until He has set up the purposes of His heart. In latter days you shall understand it perfectly. (21) I have not sent the prophets, yet they ran; I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied. (22) But if they had stood in My counsel and had caused My people to hear My Words, then they would have turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings. (23) Am I a God near by, says Jehovah, and not a God from afar? (24) Or can anyone hide himself in secret places so that I do not see him, says Jehovah? Do I not fill the heavens and the earth, says Jehovah? (25) I have heard what the prophets said, those who prophesy lies in My name, saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed. (26) How long is this there in the heart of the prophets, the prophets of lies; yea, the prophets of the deceit of their own heart? (27) They plot to cause My people to forget My name by their dreams which they tell, each one to his neighbor, even as their fathers have forgotten My name for Baal. (28) The prophet who has a dream, let him tell a dream. And he who has My Word, let him speak My Word faithfully. What has the chaff to do with the wheat, says Jehovah?

Jeremiah 23:16-28 NWT . . .This is what Jehovah of armies has said: "Do not listen to the words of the prophets who are prophesying to you people. They are making you become vain. The vision of their own heart is what they speak-not from the mouth of Jehovah. 17 They are saying again and again to those who are disrespectful of me, 'Jehovah has spoken: "Peace is what you people will come to have."' And [to] every one walking in the stubbornness of his heart they have said, 'No calamity will come upon you people.' 18 For who has stood in the intimate group of Jehovah that he might see and hear his word? Who has given attention to his word that he might hear it? 19 Look! The windstorm of Jehovah, rage itself, will certainly go forth, even a whirling tempest. Upon the head of the wicked ones it will whirl itself. 20 The anger of Jehovah will not turn back until he will have carried out and until he will have made the ideas of his heart come true. In the final part of the days you people will give your consideration to it with understanding. 21 "I did not send the prophets, yet they themselves ran. I did not speak to them, yet they themselves prophesied. 22 But if they had stood in my intimate group, then they would have made my people hear my own words, and they would have caused them to turn back from their bad way and from the badness of their dealings." 23 "Am I a God nearby," is the utterance of Jehovah, "and not a God far away?" 24 "Or can any man be concealed in places of concealment and I myself not see him?" is the utterance of Jehovah. "Is it not the heavens and the earth that I myself actually fill?" is the utterance of Jehovah. 25 "I have heard what the prophets who are prophesying falsehood in my own name have said, saying, 'I have had a dream! I have had a dream!' 26 How long will it exist in the heart of the prophets who are prophesying the falsehood and who are prophets of the trickiness of their own heart? 27 They are thinking of making my people forget my name by means of their dreams that they keep relating each one to the other, just as their fathers forgot my name by means of Baal. 28 The prophet with whom there is a dream, let him relate the dream; but the one with whom my own word is, let him speak forth my word truthfully.. . .

Jeremiah 23:16-28 ASV (16) Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that prophesy unto you: they teach you vanity; they speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of Jehovah. (17) They say continually unto them that despise me, Jehovah hath said, Ye shall have peace; and unto every one that walketh in the stubbornness of his own heart they say, No evil shall come upon you. (18) For who hath stood in the council of Jehovah, that he should perceive and hear his word? who hath marked my word, and heard it? (19) Behold, the tempest of Jehovah, even his wrath, is gone forth, yea, a whirling tempest: it shall burst upon the head of the wicked. (20) The anger of Jehovah shall not return, until he have executed, and till he have performed the intents of his heart: in the latter days ye shall understand it perfectly. (21) I sent not these prophets, yet they ran: I spake not unto them, yet they prophesied. (22) But if they had stood in my council, then had they caused my people to hear my words, and had turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings. (23) Am I a God at hand, saith Jehovah, and not a God afar off? (24) Can any hide himself in secret places so that I shall not see him? saith Jehovah. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith Jehovah. (25) I have heard what the prophets have said, that prophesy lies in my name, saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed. (26) How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies, even the prophets of the deceit of their own heart? (27) that think to cause my people to forget my name by their dreams which they tell every man to his neighbor, as their fathers forgat my name for Baal. (28) The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What is the straw to the wheat? saith Jehovah.

You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals.
The Translations we quote are:

ALT - Analytical Literal Translation

ASV - American Standard Version (by the American revision committee in 1897).
